A 'fixed filter' will automatically only include athletes from a series ranking based on a certain athlete field (these can be created using custom fields).
For example, you might like to operate a national ranking for New Zealand where only athletes from New Zealand appear on the ranking. In this case, you'd set up a fixed filter where the athlete's Nationality = New Zealand at the time that the event result was published.
The fixed filter applies at the time that the event was set to Results published, this is so changing an athlete's field will not affect your historic series - for example - if an athlete's nation changes, you would not want their national ranking to change from five years ago. If you would like certain historic events to be updated with this athlete's field being changed, you can edit those event status from results published to complete and back to results published.
Note: A Fixed filter is different to a normal filter, which can be viewed and set by spectators (e.g. they can filter the ranking for a certain country or state). Instead, a Fixed filter is hidden from spectators, and automatically applies to all events in a Series rankings, so only athletes who match the filter appear in the ranking, at the time that the event was set to Results published.

Common questions for fixed filters
An athlete has changed their field (e.g. they went from "Rookie" to "Not rookie" in a ranking which only includes "Rookie"), however they are not appearing on the ranking. Why?
As described above, the Fixed filter applies to the athlete's event result at the time that the event was set to results published. It was built this way so your historic rankings are preserved in the case that athlete's properties change. For example, in this case, they may have competed 5 years ago as a "rookie" and then became "not rookie", and changing this field to "not rookie" should not remove them from the rookie rankings from 5 years ago.
If you would like certain historic events to be updated with this athlete's field being changed, you can edit those event status from results published to complete and back to results published.
